FREE STUFF TABLE! - I had almost forgotten about this
aspect of ANT!, but was reminded by an on-the-ball.
participant whose name I've forgotten because of all the
publicity work I've been doing for ANT!...
YES. There will a be a table just as people come in to ANT!
where participants and even NON-participants can put
stuff like FLYERS, PAMPHLETS, BIZ
CARDS, STICKERS and ANYTHING ELSE for
FREE... It was a GREAT idea at a t-shirt art exhibit
I was involved in and should go over real well at ANT!, too!

BIG NEWS! - We just got word that
LARS VEGAS is going to perform at ANT!.
Cheryl & I have been to see LV down in
Brooklyn, NY and in Boston and Cambridge and
they've decided to lend their loungey, jazzy artistry
to the whole ANT! mix!
In addition to Lars Vegas, Worcester's very own>
Steve Mossberg will be performing. He was written
up in the Jazz Worcester Real Book a publication
of Worcester Publishing Ltd. that takes a look at the
history of Jazz in Worcester, bio's on all kinds of jazz
musicians and even sheet music to the artists' songs...
IN OTHER NEWS...
We are batting around the idea of having a
pre-ANT Sat. Night Set-Up Party
whereas we'll announce a time to show up at
Worcester Artist Group WITH
all of your stuff to set up and we can not only
set up YOUR space, but map out & number up
all of the spaces and make things alot easier
for Sunday set-up.
***We still haven't got the go-ahead
from Gary at WAG, but...

Okay... Here are some ANSWERS to some of the questions
I've been getting from people participating in ANT!:
When do we pay you the $10 space fee to be in ANT! ?
I'm TRUSTING EVERYONE who said they'd DEFINITELY be a part
of this ANT! event to actually show up and to pay
on the day of the event. No checks, no money orders,
no credit cards. Please bring $10 CASH. Thank you.
Bring something to sit on, in addition to your table / set-up.
Like everything else with ANT!, we are operating on a
"we have nothing" basis, so please bring something to sit on.
You MIGHT want to pack a lunch.
We THOUGHT that we would would have someone in place
to do catering / coffee / etc. in the food department, but
that's fallen through. We MIGHT be selling sodas at ANT!,
but we advise everyone to FEND for themselves food-wise.
The GOOD news is...
that we MIGHT replace FOOD with MUSIC at ANT!
Nothing's been confirmed yet, but we MIGHT have a fairly renowned
Worcester musician performing at ANT! who previously
expressed an interest... More news on this later...

Anyone who e-mailed me with their information to be a part
of ANT! AFTER today, I have to apologize to and
sadly inform you that we've reached our MAXIMUM number
of artists who can have space at this event. (Frankly, I'd
like to have SO MANY artists exhibiting at this event that
it's simply OVERWHELMING, but due to the physical size of
the WAG (which actually is pretty big), we can't fit
any more.
BUT DON'T GIVE UP HOPE! If all goes well, there will be
MORE ANT! events very soon! Please keep sending in
your info forms and keep checking back for future dates
for ANT! events.
In the mean time, I encourage EVERYONE who wants to be
a part of ANT! to AT LEAST have stuff you can
contribute to the FREE STUFF TABLE.
Perhaps if you know someone already on the official list
of ANT! Participants, maybe you can ask them if you can share / split
a space with them. (Please let me know if such a deal is made!)
I want to THANK everyone who has taken the time to get in touch
with us to be a part of ANT! We don't mean to exclude
anyone from being a part of the action.
Any ideas or questions? Feel free to e-mail me at doug@dsquared.org

A great idea I saw implemented at a t-shirt art show I
was privileged enough to be a part of was a
FREE STUFF TABLE where everyone involved
in the art show could put flyers, biz cards, freebies
of ALL sort and people attending the show could sift
through the stuff and take what they wanted.
ALL participANTs are encouraged to create some sort
of FREE STUFF that could be given away like this.
It can be a biz card or a flyer or ANYTHING that promotes
your work. (The table MIGHT even be extended to people
who AREN'T participating, but still want to promote
something, i.e. a band's show, an artist who was too
late to get in on participating at ANT, a gallery, etc.
Cheryl & I might also be developing some sort of
GIVEAWAY where people attending could win some
donated art, prizes, gift certificates, something...

For those of you in DESPERATE NEED of a TABLE, I just received
this response to a price inquiry I did with Taylor Rental
on West Boylston Street in Worcester:
"We would carry the 6ft tables. Cost per table is $9.20.
You could save if you pick them up as our delivery and pickup fee
for Worcester is $20.00 each way.
Let us know what you decide and call us at 508-791-2553 so we
can make a reservation for you as soon as possible."
Taylor Rental e-mail address
I would advise those of you with absolutely no other options
to take advantage of this and book a table rental ASAP.
OR it might be a good idea to actually BUY a 6' table as a
future investment. Just an idea...

It's been brought to my attention that my initial invitation letter
was a tad confusing when it came to the PRICE that we are charging
for SPACE at ANT!... Hopefully, THIS will clear things up a bit.
We are charging $10 for just the space. We are encoraging people
to PLEASE bring their own tables, displays, racks, shelves, etc.
to create their own set-up within this space.
IF we happen to have a table that we can lend to someone participating
in ANT!, then we'll tack on $5, making the charge for the
participANT $15, which is still pretty cheap.
We are going to TRY to accomodate everyone as best we can with what
limited resources we have. I hope that this clarification makes things
more understandable. Any questions? Feel free to e-mail me at doug@dsquared.org

Alot of people signing up recently are asking for TABLES. This might be a problem
as WAG only has 4 long tables and 2 square tables for us to use and ideally we'd
like to use these tables for FOOD and INFO tables.
PLEASE ask your friends, co-workers, church, family, WHOEVER to see
if someone might be able to LEND you a table.
OR do something DIFFERENT... As Tina Zlody at stART reccommended:
"artists are creative, 2 milk crates and a piece of wood and viola you have a table".
I didn't have a table to use at the first stART on the Street fair so
I brought my living room set-up - coffee table, two chairs, a small table
and a big cork bulletin board thing that I propped up to show hanging art.
I put zines & flyers in cool metal lunchboxes and my Mom found some
old magazine racks from the garage for me to use. And IT WORKED.
The key word here is IMPROVISE.
What tables we have will be given to those who responded to the
ANT! invitation FIRST. It's the only fair way to do this.
If you contact Taylor Rental or some other party rental place
you could always look into renting an actual table from them and the
space fee at ANT! will only be $10.
If this is going to be a major issue with ANYONE, please e-mail me
at doug@dsquared.org

Cheryl & I have talked with Gary at WAG and he has told us that
there WILL be an ongoing art exhibit in the Gallery at WAG when
ANT! is going on. This means that there will be art on the walls and
it can't be taken down. Consider this to be a CHALLENGE.
We encourage ANT! participants to come up with OTHER WAYS of
displaying their artwork. You could construct two big pieces of
plywood hinged together that could stand up and be used to
display artwork. This hinged v-shape thing could be decorated
any which way you want AND because of it being hinged, can fold up
and be moved as ONE piece.
Other ideas for displaying 2-D art include propping them up against
a board of some sort in front of your table... perhaps a clothesline
technique could be used with lighter weight art...
THIS CAN BE DONE. stART on the Street was done in the middle of
South Main Street where there were no walls whatsoever. Everyone
had to improvise some way of displaying their work.
If this is going to be a major issue with ANYONE, please e-mail me
at doug@dsquared.org
