Ominously Cool Bancroft Tower in Worcester!
(created November 8, 2009)
(Don't know where that is? This is a hidden away gem that, once located, is a great place to picnic, to read, to just feel at ease (unless there are other idiots mucking up the peacefulness of this place)... You'll find it fairly easily by following these directions:)
- From the intersection of Highland Street and Park Avenue in Worcester, follow Highland Street away from Elm Park, towards Doherty High School and Newton Square (which is actually a rotary).
- RIGHT on Haviland, around the RIGHT ANGLE turn, LEFT up Beechmont, RIGHT on Bancroft Tower Road to the tower. You could also take Salisbury Street towards Holden & Assumption College to Beechmont, to Bancroft Tower Road. Either one works.
- PARK and now the fun begins.
1) Six sentinels stand before Bancroft Tower. Walk through the center and turn 90 degrees to the left to the left hand side observation turret.
2) Standing in the turret, facing the tower, walk 28 heel-to-toe paces to the tree at about 11 o'clock.
3) Further away, in the same direction, to the left of the tower, find the electrical box cross standing upright.
4) With the cross on your left, look at about 1 o'clock for the tree closest to the corner, just past seven rusty soldiers standing guard behind the tower.
5) As you stand with this tree & the tower behind you, follow the black cable to a nearby cluster of white birchj trees. One of the birch trees bears a heart.
6) Follow down to the brown fence in back.
7) At tree #1, turn and face the tower.
8) The first big tree, just slightly to the right of the tower, blocking your view is where to look for this not so hidden away treasure box looking slightly down on you.

This is my second letterboxing experiment / project. I still don't have a rubberstamp, so I'm leaving my creative business card inside the treasure box so you can attach that into your log book.
BRING a pen, pencil, marker, SOMETHING TO WRITE / DRAW with so you can add to my log book in the treasure box. Please tell me your name, e-mail, the date you found the box, anything else you want to tell me.
I also included 10 FREE Action Geek metal pins for the first people who find this treasure box. When they run out, maybe I'll add more.
Please let me know how this works out for you!
